Thanks very much; I archived that entire explanation, and will refer to it
when the time comes. I have an electrician in the family, who should
understand all that ... I operate higher up the electronics food chain,
assembling/troubleshooting PCs, software, networks, writing software, etc.
For some reason, my eyes glaze over and I lose comprehension when trying to
digest volts, watts, ohms, resistance ... zzzzzz ... despite the fact that
such tasks as tracking down my "off-by-one" programming errors are a nearly
subconscious, maniacally-focused habit. It's a good thing the Variac has
that giant, moronically simple 0-100 dial, and the digital voltmeter has ...
well, a digital display. ;)
By the way, just like Ron from SC, I too picked up a coffee-toy bargain,
which I'm still playing with: a Farberware Microwave coffee maker, $4.80
plus shipping on eBay. Well-made unit, and easy to work with. First pot
wasn't quite right, need to adjust the grind and length of time; but having
no idea what results to expect, I was surprised that my first experiment
actually produced a reasonable cup of coffee. If it works, it'll save me a
little time and effort, at least until I order my new 4-tasse FrenchPress in
a couple weeks. Had another little "oops", me and glass just don't seem to
get along ... :(
