Topic: Panama LaBerlina profiling comparison: BB (modified) vs HT (emulation) (34 lines)
1) From: Mike McGinness
After about 40hr rest (in vacuum sealed mason jars) brewed two double
strength Cafe' Crema Americanos: 18gr (weighed), 5oz pull in 25sec plus 5oz
hot water cups.
Both cups very smooth with great body & complexity. After many tastes
trading cups back and forth both Debi and I slightly preferred the BB
profiled cup, slightly better finish and more high notes, especially as they
cooled towards luke warm. (The creamy crema always great too...:-)
Roast recap:
BB (Black Bear) modified profile:
230f @2min (low voltage)
350 @3:30 (high voltage)
435 @11:00 target (med-low voltage w/gradual increase to maintain 10 rise
per minute. Actuall 11:10)
HotTop emulation profile:
350 @14min (low voltage 90v w/ gradual slight increases)
435 @17min target (voltage increased to near normal 120v, actual 17:47)
I just wish I had access to an actual HotTop to compare the roasts... Of
course, a set and forget HotTop would be much easier than monitoring temps
and times... But the results of the profiling work have been consistently
phenomenal for months!
MM;-)
