Jim,
Good morning (our time) we had 9/11 rememberance yesterday. You =
mentioned in response to my request the soup tin mod to the FR. It =
worked well and slowed the roast time down from a 3min approx 1st crack =
to 4min. I roasted 25g of columbian/25g malawi ,a bean I have not seen =
mentioned. What would be your reaction to fitting a slide/window to the =
side of the soup tin lifter that allowed some air/heat to escape just =
for a few seconds. I notice from the comments on the list that different =
methods are being tried to get this slow down. I am learning a lot from =
reading the lists, being a new comer,I do not know of any other roasters =
in my country to learn from.

Thank Cathy Marley for the soup tin mod. A window in
the tin is certainly an idea that could work. Barry
Jarret, a pro who uses the FR as a sample roaster has a
fancy conical lid that has a similar flow control. If
you do put in a window, you might consider having a
providing it a mesh screen to prevent chaff or beans
from spilling.
If it works as a roast control, it's a lot cheaper than
a variac ;)
