Topic: MR16 Halogen Light Sources (2 msgs / 62 lines)

Irene and Lubos - these are the lights I'm talking
about. I only know this because I have a lighting
track full of these. I didn't buy them because they
had a certain CRI, but when I was looking for track
lights for my library I wanted something that was
going to be more balanced because I was telecommuting
and spending a lot of time in there. Being in Michigan
our sunlight season is relatively short and I wanted
something that was going to simulate the brightness
and color temp of sun. All the package said is that
they were "full spectrum color balanced" or something
like that. Anyway I found the following link which
describes specs on the Solux and similar lamps which
are readily available by the hundreds from Home Depot
- I think that other similar home improvement centers
may carry them. They require a fixture which fits
into the track which provides the low voltage,
high-current power supply needed to power them, and
you can buy track sections and a wiring fitting a la
cart.
Turns out they're tungsten/halogen based bulbs with a
4700K color temperature, and CRI of 99.35 - that's
close enough for me. Full specs are at the link
below. Perhaps these will do just fine for the type of
comparison with color chips/Agtron disks, etc.http://csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr162/lect/sun/spectrum.html<Snip>">http://www.halogenlamps.com/lighting/solux4700K.tpl?cart325192958811#Technical%20Specifications<Snip>http://csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr162/lect/sun/spectrum.html<Snip>

Yowch on the prices though. About $70 to $200 for the various clip-ons and
task lamps. Sounds like a good light, and I believe halogens aren't
supposed to change spectrum as much with age as regular incandescents, but
it's still a bit rich for my blood these days.
