Topic: Flat vs convex & tamp vs no tamp (17 lines)
1) From: Mike McGinness
Just dawned on me. I was talking with a tamp manufacturer at the Expo about
flat vs convex. The theory behind convex is that as the shot is pulled the
bottom of the basket will actually bow from the pressure. The convex
tamper's design is so the shape on the top of the puck will more closely
match the bottom during the pull. Purpose: even puck thickness for even
extraction. So even though zero tamp pulls in the same length of time, it
may likely will result in a less even extraction of the puck. May take very
careful cupping to tell the difference...
