Several of the viruses going around send themselves to everyone in your
Outlook address book. If they also use Outlook, it continues. This is
one of the reasons why it is a very bad idea to use Outlook.
There are a bunch of web sites with very good info on viruses and on
virus hoaxes.
Probably a friend of Dan's uses Outlook, had Dan in his address book,
and was sent the virus. People have gotten klez viruses in e-mails that
claimed to be from me. That is simply impossible - I don't even use
Windows, let alone Outlook, so I couldn't have spread klez.
Don't blame Dan, stop panicking, don't use Outlook and keep your virus
definitions up to date. Avoiding Word and Excel helps, too. Then,
you'll be fine.
Be well,
Lissa

I am certainly not blaming Dan in any way. I was sure this did not come
from Dan's computer, because of the spoofed address, but the common
thread here is the SM list. (of course we don't know to how many others
the worm was sent from the same address) And I wondered how the spoofer
got hold of our individual mail addresses if not from some list member's
address book, or from the list server. I never have used outlook, and
don't intend to.
