Topic: The Office Test (38 lines)
1) From: Les & Becky
I couldn't resist! I took some of the 5 week stored coffee to the office
this morning. I told Linda (one of the front office helpers), I would brew
up the next batch of coffee for the office. They go through about 4 pots a
day. I brewed a mix of the two 5 week old coffees. As the aroma wafted
through the office, 4 or 5 of the folks asked if I had brought in some
Gevalia! I told them that it was custom roasted Panama! Three of them came
back to my office and commented on how good the coffee was!!!! So, guess
what? I think I know of a way to get rid of bad coffee without sending it
to the garbage. Please don't send me your stale coffee!!! It just goes to
show how bad the commercial stuff really is!
A couple of things Mike failed to tell you. (We did go outside after
smelling some of the stale coffee) We couldn't waste good coffee! We
consumed most of the JBM that was good and all of the Konas. I think Debi
drank more than her usual share of coffee too. I don't know about Mike, but
I was on a good caffeine buzz most of the night, and I didn't get to sleep
until 2:00 A.M.! I was amazed at the difference between the Konas we drank.
They were all Kona, but really different. Even the three coffees from the
same estate had distinct character. Mike has roasting down! I have been
roasting for 17 years, and Mike is a real pro. The color and evenness of
his roasts were perfect! The way he abuses, I mean uses, his Rostos is a
testimony to their toughness. I am planning on getting one when I need a
new roaster. You won't find a more gracious couple! They made me feel
right at home. Mike's ribs were out of this world!
Question for all of you decaff roasters! I just picked up some of the
decaff beans. I need advice, comments, roasting hints! Some of you lurkers
need to weigh in with the group!
