Topic: Monkey Blend?????? (2 msgs / 43 lines)
1) From: Joseph Llanos
I recently ordered a couple of pounds of the Monkey
blend and a pound of the Italian from SM. I was
wondering if anybody could give me advice on roasting
with a Popcorn Pumper (by Silex)? It was one of the 3
recommended popcorn machines by SM. I've been mainly
using Lavazza's Pienaroma Espresso til now and would
love to achieve that smooth rich flavor if possible?
This will be my first attempt at roasting, so I've
been reading as much as possible but any last minute
details would really be appreciated!
Thanks again!

I haven't tried the Italian, but I LOVE the Monkey. I roast it about 30
to 45 seconds into a roaring second crack. It depends a lot on how fast
your Pumper roasts. I aim for 8:30, but I can control my popper to any
roast I desire. Nevertheless, you want a deep brown with a light sheen
of oil after the beans rest for 12 hours or so. If you roast Monkey too
light, it gets quite bright (or sour). For espresso, it needs to go
into second crack a good bit.
