Did someone say 'Go to Hawaii and pick coffee?' . I know of about 500
acres that needs to be picked about now. Again this year, according to Kimo
Falconer, the Maui Kaanapali beans are not being harvested. Having seen all
those wonderful beans green on the trees this past June, and thinking about
all those weeds and none of the beans being picked just makes me sick. Maui
Moka is one of the most unique beans I've ever tasted. It's not the best
bean I've ever had, but it's tiny size and bright taste add so much to my
overall coffee experience. Kauai Coffee was working a deal to take over the
plantation, but it has not come through in time. Maybe next year someone
will come through and rescue the trees. Seeing those rotting beans lying on
that red dirt will stick in my mind for a long time.
