Topic: R.I.P. Hearthware Precision (5 msgs / 99 lines)
1) From: jerry
Well, it finally happened; after three and a half years of reliable
service, my Precision died. I was doing my usual roast - the fourth of
four batches of various beans, when I saw smoke pouring from the roaster
and the beans not stirring, even though the roast had barely begun. The
fan had failed, with the result that the case is permanently
disfigured. Obviously, it's no usable, and I wonder about its
reparability, in light of what I have heard several people say about the
forthcoming upgraded Hearthware. I haven't saved old emails; can
someone who knows about it, tell me what you have heard about the new
product? Thanks, Jerry

Jerry, I think I'd call Hearthware and tell them about your mishap. They
might replace it with a new one. How could it hurt?

Thanks, Ed. Did that & they told me to send it back. They'll tell me how
much it'll cost to fix it or sell me a new one for $149 (they DO have a few of
the old black ones in stock). -- Jerry

I had some problems with my 2-yr. old HWP; sent it back for a look. They
are going to replace the motor and board and ship it back for ~$45.

....and fix the warped plastic case too? If so, cool! Now you will have more
money for beans!
