Topic: True Italian Espresso (32 lines)
1) From: Tom & Maria
Hi all,
Power is still on ...thought I would brave another message!
Scott Jensen just returned from italy (insert expression of longing and
envy here) and he was lucky enough to spend time in the back room of a
roasting shop (they use a Probat) and get a green sample of their espresso
blend!
he sent some to me and I cant wait to cup it. But what is really neat is
that it has NO robusta (contrary to what people say about "true" Italian
espresso) and suprising to me is the lack of Ethiopian DP coffee. It has
less Brazil DP than I would expect too. I estimate it to be promarily
washed Central American. I would guess that it is 40% brazil Cerrado
(bourbon) DP, 25% Guatemalan and 35% Colombian! I suppose I could divide
it and figure the ratio more exactly. it also could contain a little Papua
New Guinea instead of some of the Colombian but i am not sure.
But the point is this: Heres a unrefutable sample of tru italian espresso
and it is not a "biting" cup., its a sweet, clean cup. It would actually be
sweeter and less earthy/fruity than even the Monkey blend because I use the
DP Ethiopian (17.5%). So this is not what we are told is "continental"
espresso, with the additional bite of robusta....
