I picked up an old Were Ever Popcorn pumper. It was missing the top so I
paid $1.50 for it.
The thing has 1400 watts, an AC fan motor and is a real tank with cast
aluminum housing etc.
I would assume that this unit has been used and was wondering what people
that are experienced think of it?? I ran a 3/4 cup thru it and found that
I had to stir it a little at first to get the circulation but after about a
minute it was doing fine. at about the 6 minute mark the thermo cut out did
its thing and it would not fire up again till it cooled. It looks like a
person can bypass it but I was wondering if anybody had any experience on
this matter.

Yup, I've got one of these. The thermostat is easy to bypass, but don't run
it unattended, also preferably roast outdoors. I ran several batches through
mine before doing this, and my usual 4 oz batch doesn't trip it. A third
pound will, sometimes. It does a great job, 5 or 6 minutes to 1st, 8 to 2nd
during summer weather, during the winter I've been useing a cardboard box
and aluminum foil to recirculate. 10 to 12 minutes to 2nd with a little
practice. mmmm coffee gooood...

At the same store there were 5 other air poppers and I also got one that was
brand new shape called "Everyday living." It has a bunch of air flow and
pulled temp well. I have not taken it apart yet but it looks like it might
be a repackaged P2. It roasted a bit fast, Time I cooled the beans it looked
like I had stopped by Starbucks. Any thought on this unit??
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Does it fire up through the bottom, instead of through the sides? I had one
of the vertical-fire poppers, with a 10 inch chimney, with a 8 inch diameter
funnel at the end to catch and return the beans. AKA, the Chaff Cannon. It
hit 2nd in 4 minutes, maybe less. After the first roast from the Popcorn
Pumper, the Chaff Cannon hit the dumpster. The longer roast (7-12 minutes
total) made a big difference in flavor, and made it at least 10 times easier
to control the roast.
Anyways, hopefully my rambling's not too misguided...
