Topic: Monkey blend "light" roast (20 lines)
1) From: Spencer W. Thomas
I roasted up a new batch of Monkey Blend on Monday evening. It sounded
like it was going into "fast" 2nd crack, so I stopped it, because that's
generally where I like it. But when I cooled and dumped the beans, they
were quite light colored. A ground sample looked closer to Ken David's
"45" color panel than the "65" panel, so I guesstimated it to be about
Agtron 50. Definitely "brown", nowhere near "dark brown" where is where
most of my espresso roasts end up.
Well... I pulled my first shot of it this morning (Krups Gusto). All I
can say is wow! This is a very flavorful shot with no bitterness and
lots of good coffee flavor. I was afraid it was going to be too acidic,
but it's not. Maybe I'll aim for this color more often!
