Topic: Help! I can't tell when the second crack starts! (3 msgs / 66 lines)
1) From: Ron Ehsani
I roast with a Rosto and can pretty much tell when the first crack starts,
first slowly, then rolls heavily. At 115 volts, 70F (variac), it typically
begins at around 7 min.. My problem is that I can NEVER tell when the
second crack starts, Or for that matter, when the first one ends!
Consequently, I've been roasting only by site, which for the most part is
fine. However, I'de like to fine tune my roasting by the sound as well.
As those of you who own a Rosto know, it is fairly noisy. My questions are:
1- Is there a distinct end of first crack, followed by maybe no sound, and
then start of the second crack, or do they run back to back? Either way I
can't tell!
2- How can I tell when the second crack has started?
Thanks in advance...

I can hear second crack with the Rosto, even with my "too many rock concerts
when I was young" ears. It is a little hard to pick up at times, but can be
heard.
