Go for it! The "cups" work out to ~4 oz, so filling it to the "4 cup"
line will give you about what you're looking for. (You lose some of the
water to the grounds; they don't get vacuumed quite dry.) As for
leaving too much water in the bottom, I don't feel it's a problem. You
use the quantity of coffee that makes the resulting brew the strength
you're looking for. (I've got an old small Cona that leaves even more
water in the bottom, and it makes fine coffee...)
The Yama's my everyday breakfast coffee maker; it's perfect for two
(American) cups of coffee.
