Mr. UPS man brought a nice, shiny new Alp to my door today! I promptly
unpacked it and threw in a full batch of Monkey Blend. Roasted to a
roaring second crack in about 17:50 in a 60 degree basement. Roast
looks pretty even, a few beans got stuck in the drum, and my exhaust
system I've been using with my poppers really worked great (6" muffin
fan mounted in a board, stuck in the window, with 4" dryer vent hose
hooked to a plastic ABS drain tile 4" to 5" reducer as a nozzle - which
is hooked to a spring arm desk lamp w/o the lamp as a positioner).
Anyway, I can't wait to let it rest a while and see if I truly get a
better cup vs. my poppers. Volume of the green beans was 1-1/2 cups,
about two batches in my Poppery Mk. I's or 'original' Pumpers, so it
works out pretty good.
For improved cooling, I cracked the lid about 1/2" just after the cool
cycle began. The beans in the cup were warm, but I'd guess no more than
110F, and at least as cool as a popper roast after a 2 minute cooldown.
Definitely acceptable cooling, IMHO.
Gonzo has a Hottop, so you can bet there's going to be some comparison
roasts going on here!
