And a sleepy Merry Christmas to you too! (It's just after 4am and the Turkey
is on the Traeger, back to bed in a few but first to answer your question:-)
We use the Bodum Brazil 32oz with unbreakable polycarbonate beaker for
travel.http://www.bodum.com/shop/home.asp?CHK88&SLT=&mscssid91004T2XSR2MTE000CM9L4BJVPCBBF
Also available in 12oz with poly beaker. The Brazil line also comes with the
borosilicate glass beaker (the standard for all Bodum French press plungers)
so make sure to get the right one if you want the unbreakable beaker. Been
using ours for a number of years. We also travel with the Zassenhaus Turkish
Mill Tom sells. (I'll assume you have Sweet Maria's as your browser home
page so won't include the URL, at the least book marked!:-)

We use a plastic and stainless insulated thermal FP from Nissan. Got it in
Gloria Jean's...... does Tom carry one? If not, he should. It is just the
ticket for camping, especially if there is no or limited power.

Also, for those of you who do--as I intend to from now on--what do you
do about hot water? Carry an electric hot pot?

I drive from Kansas City to NJ a few times a year.
I use a Bodum FP and normally get my hot water from whatever rest stop/gas
station/travel center I am at. Note: SOME places will try to charge you
full coffee price because of the extraordinary value of just an empty cup.
Bring your own vessel. If it's a real caffeine attack I would just pull
over and light off the portable butane single burner and make my own hot
water.
But, the idea of the Bodum curl or mini ibis electric pot with a power
inverter in keeping with the self sufficiency of the Land Cruiser is
appealing to me daily. I would only have to stop to Zass the beans.
Respectfully,
Rich Adams

Great minds . . . . Got the inverter, got a "spare" Pavoni, got a Salton
grinder (not a Zass, but we're working out of the toy box here to save money
) . . . now, can we get enough heat off the exhaust manifold to roast some
beans while we drive ? ? ?
It's got to be better than what comes out of those "coffee boxes" that have
sprung up everywhere (out West, anyway).

Yup, Bodum Ibis. I like the way the pitcher removes from the base so the
power cord isn't a hassle.

I carried a FR roaster, Zass. knee grinder, a 4 cup Melitta auto drip
machine, two cups, bag of green beans, Brita water filter, etc. in a
small suitcase on our vacation last summer. Roasted in the hotel
bathroom while the wife and kids were out.
Other times, I've carried an electric hot pot, and a Melitta cone,
etc.
