In this case ignorance really is bliss! Pods are pre-roasted pre-ground
pre-packaged little 'pods' used in PF (designed for pods) for making
espresso. Never tried them myself, never will. Miss Silvia said so.

If you have seen Invasion of the Body Snatcher, made in 1956 I think.
Some big coffee company honchos saw the movie, identified with the
aliens and applied the concept to espresso. They pre-select,
pre-roast, pre-grind, and pre-package down to the shot level. Look,
handy dandy espresso. No decisions, no roasting, no grinding, no
clean-up, higher price for mostly Viet Nam's newest export. No
pleasure for the customer, more profit for the coffee company. It is
espresso for people who think Folgers is coffee and want to move to
espresso for the style.

Beautiful word picture-with just enough twist on the delivery to make it
obvious to even the thickest.

It doesn't seem to be a totally negative thing...There is a thread on it
over in alt.coffee. Some of the posters use the Nespresso pods and refill
them with their own freshly ground coffee....They seem to be happy with the
convenience of the things, as well as the taste,,,,,
I kinda like cleaning up....

They are somewhere between Sanka and Hills Brothers! I got some with my
machine. They work great for after running cleaner through the machine, as
those brews go down the drain. I just finished a fine prime rib dinner
basted with a quad shot of Kona based marinade and brush on sauce!
