Topic: Bodum mini Santos electric (36 lines)
1) From: Chris Beck
After a long wait, I finally received my MiniSantos. Amazon gave me a
bit of a runaround after cancelling my order for the un-available clear
model I ordered, but made good after a few polite e-mails and sent me
the graphite blue model instead at the $50 sale price.
Well, first impressions were how well made everything seems to be. Good
quality molding, clever design, nice fit and finish. The packaging is
very nice, with good instructions, scoop, videotape (haven't watched
that yet) and good protection for the parts. The thing looks HOT on the
counter. Very attractive.
So, I make up a batch of brew, grinding at 25 or so on the Rocky and to
the 4 cup fill line (max is 6). WOW! this thing heats fast. Maybe 3
minutes before the water was up north. Furious bubling ensued, making
stirring not needed. After about 2, 2-1/2 minutes, the heat kicked to
low, and the coffee made a speedy trip south. The resultant brew is
excellent, and is indistiguishable from my glass vacs or the Yama that
this replaced (RIP). The mesh filter left a wee bit of mud in the cup,
but no worse than the Cona drainer.
I ran another pot of just water right after the coffee batch, and found
the burner kicked to low after about 30 seconds. Therefore, back to
back pots won't work without a cooldown - just like my Sunbeam C30A. Not
a problem for me.
So, that's all I have to say about that. I'll follow up once I have the
chance to sample more varieties of my bean stash. Hopefully this thing
will hold up well, too. It has a 2 year warranty, so that seems excellent!
