Topic: Galapagos coffee? (6 msgs / 100 lines)
1) From: The Scarlet Wombat
Anyone heard of or had coffee from the Galapagos islands? A friend gave me
a pound of whole bean Galapagos coffee for my birthday, just two days past.
It is an interesting coffee, very lively for an American coffee with a high
acid and pretty good flavor, reminds me of a blend using La Minita and
Kenya AA.
I did not even know that coffee was grown anywhere on the Galapagos
islands, didn't know they had altitude sufficient for Arabica
beans...unless this is robusta, but I don't think so.
It makes a quite decent Americano.

I've heard of it, but haven't tried it. The Galapogos is on the equator,
but they islands aren't very high. Low grown coffee should be possible,
though.

Sounds like you got a fresher batch of greens than I did in 01. Mine were
more tan than green, I could tell they'd been around awhile. It showed in
the roast and cup with poor acidity and flat taste...

Actually Mike, I was sent roasted beans. Greens would not have done me any
good just now with two dead Gourmets, awaiting two new circuit boards from
Hearthware.

Dan,
I still have a pound left in my stash! Reminds me a lot of a good central.
I didn't get it through Tom, so I didn't really want to talk about it on
list. A good coffee, but not overly impressive! I like it as an Americano
too!

At $11 per pound it would have to be VERY impressive for me! Look at what
$5 will buy at Sweet Marias. :) Dan
