Topic: Grinder tests (bodum antigua) (2 msgs / 64 lines)

I got a Bodum Antigua about 2 years ago for like $29.99 (the store was
going out of business). Just recently I upgraded to the Mazzer &
Sylvia. Before I used a french press & vacpot. The Bodum worked fine
for that, but will leave significantly more dust in the grounds
(compared to the mazzer), which you will notice in the french press.
For the vacpot it's fine. With the mazzer as long as I remove all the
espresso grounds I can do french press with virtually no sludge, the
Bodum can not. So the bottom line I guess is the bodum is fine if some
sludge won't bother you too much. Mine has worked without a problem for
2 years now. I'd say buy if the price is right. I haven't even
bothered to try the bodum for espresso but if you're interested how it
will work when/if you try espresso I can give it a shot.

Thanks, Alan. There is definitely a Rocky in our future--unless I'm feeling
particularly well-off at the time and go for a Mazzer--but I don't
anticipate moving to espresso until I'm feeling really confident about my
roasting. At that point, I'll go for a Silvia and the best grinder I can
afford. Given how much dust there is in the bottom of our press-pot coffee
now, it sounds like the Antigua pretty much has to be worth the $50 Bodum is
asking for it. Decision made, with help from you and Mike.
