Topic: Phenol test update (4 msgs / 97 lines)
1) From: AlChemist John
I briefly debated whether to post this to individuals or the list and
decided upon the list. Back in December I set up for a number of
volunteers to roast some Uganda and sent it to me for chemical extraction
and analysis (phenolics in particular). So far I have received samples
from Jim G., Dave Huddle and Leslie Smith. I ground their samples in my
NEW Zass hand mill (nice step up), MeCl extracted them and concentrated
them for analysis next week.
I have not received samples form John in Texas, (but I realize he is off on
family business), Mark Chalkley for the HWP and Mike Mc. Are you guys
still up for the test? Mike, since it came up again on another thread,
would you care to do two samples, one with your "regular" profile and one
with a "drum" profile and see if there is any chemical differences?
I'll post the preliminary results next week some time.

John,
Sorry about forgetting to send some UB roast samples. Got kink of side
tracked with roaster controls etc. I don't remember if we were supposed to
roast to a specific or what. Also how much to send of each batch, 2oz or so
finished roast? If degree of roast not important I propose sending 3 Rosto
batches all roasted to Full City just barely start of 2nd crack my 450f.
One batch "stock" Rosto which should be around 7-8min, one batch my profile
total 15min, one batch full drum emulation 20min. Or 10 more to 460 just
into 2nd a bit if you want (and 1 minute more to my profiles...) If you want
a different degree of roast let me know today, I'll roast them tomorrow and
ship Tuesday. I have your Yoncalla PO Box address...

Roger that. It shall be done. I'll go 460f, just a bit into 2nd. (Makes a
nice Uganda roast for shots too:)
