Paul try spacing the thermometer up with washers or a 1/2 nut to get it =
off the chaff collector.

New to the list and going thru my sample
8-pak, having good results and great coffee.
I put the cooper 550F thermo thru the lid of
the hearthware gourmet (mine has a black pastic
and metal top lid) and it seems to work very
well and temps seem to correlate well with
roast color, but the temp needle (not the probe)
can vibrate so much it can be difficult to read
the temp. could be that I should have drilled
thru the plastic part of the lid rather than the
metal part just below it (I had no advance clue
as it seemed the web photo posted had an all metal
lid). if I need to re-drill the hole, any ideas on
how to plug the first hole? I'm assuming due to angle
the probe is resting against the chaff collector under the
lid rather than going into the roast chamber without any
'interference' && that is causing the vibration.

Don't know about most of that but its safe to use 100% silicone to patch
the hole or secure the thermo. Maybe taht will help.
