Topic: Maybe some older (cheaper) beans from Tom and Maria? (28 lines)
1) From: Mark Neuhausen
Before I found Sweet Marias, I was buying quite a few beans over e-Bay. By
the time the bidding ends and one pays what is frequently an inflated
shipping charge, I have not found much price difference with Sweet Marias.
And the quality varies. This may not be true for the large quantities of
some types of beans now showing up on e-Bay.
But, Sweet Marias may well be willing to offer a deal if you buy a large
quantity of one type of bean or ask if they have an older bean or one that
is not moving that they you could help them unload. That would be a good
deal for both parties, and people getting the large roasters down for home
use can only increase Sweet Marias bean sales. And the per pound price for
shipping should go down on a larger order.
I bought some of the Blue Cloud Vietnamese Robusta when getting started.
Tom carries it if you want to see contrast. His cupping review for the
beans is generous (as awful as it is). I found the beans to be too bad to
even be able to use for learning. That said, you are probably okay with
most arabica beans as they will go through the various stages properly and
have a changing taste.
Just one person's opinion.
