I roasted up a small batch of this for the first time today. In the
finished product, roasted to a light full-city, about 5% of the beans
were a matte tan while the rest were the expected typical satiny dark
brown. I culled out the lighter beans, but I wondered if I should have
left them in. Anyone know whether or not they are stinkers in this
case?

I am a little surprised you got these light beans out of that
coffee... used to get it from Monte Carmelo when I started to suspect
that the quality of that coffee was dropping. tan beans in a Brazil
is usually immature seeds, and in that case I would pull them out.
I am going to do a test roast from the top of the bag right now and
see what I get. All the cupping I did on that coffee produced even
roasts, and as you can see from the review, I am pretty fond of this
coffee (and wonder if it will out-cup the Boa Vista auction lot we
are receiving in late Feb...

Let us know what you find. Btw I just brewed up some of the Brazil this
morning and it was superb. Toasted walnut and a rich bottom-end.
