Vic,
I have noticed the same taste reaction with the Harar. I don't like it
right out of the pot! It seems to need to rest and cool a little to bring
out the flavor. I have noticed the same thing with some of the Colombian
coffees as well. I have found the Brazil coffees seem to get better as they
cool too.

I just roasted my first batch of SM's fair trade harar. Wow - I have never
been hit with the blast of fruity smoke like this during the first crack. I
was tempted to stop the roast right then. Has anyone done such a thing?

Try a double shot with out resting. The high notes are out of this world!

I have had it this way. It redefines the puck in pucker or blow in
blow your socks off! I agree with Oaxaca Charlie, it is great in
Mocha Java.

Harar Horse is a marque from Mohamed Ogsadey in Dire Dawa. Last year,
because of the new Ethiopia coffee exchange rules, they were
basically shut down from direct exporting, so the "Horse" name did
not exist. All lots had to go through the ECX, which anonymizes all
lots. You could still buy Grade 4 or Grade 5 Harar, and ostensibly
some of those would have been from Ogsadey, but I can tell yopu right
now, the quality was very poor. The ECX was a major issue with buyins
source-direct Harar coffee, but on top of that, it was not a great
year for Harar. I don't think we missed anything. And you should
really do yourself a favor and check out the other dry process
lots... Maduro, etc. Incredible!

I've noticed more regions which have typically wet processed are producing dry processed coffees, and I usually jump at these.
However, I note there's a new thumbs down selection. Tempting. I may have to do a cupping comparison between the Panama Dry Processing Experiment Gone Wrong and the Goo Goo Muck, which I still have some of.
