Topic: BBQ rotisserie roasting w/o the BBQ... (33 lines)

A while back I posted a suggestion for folks to check out the Ultrex
Convection oven w/ Rotisserie. These can be found all over ebay for
anywhere from $39 to $119...For those of you who wish for that drum roasted
taste but don't have access to a BBQ grill these seem perfect. They will go
up to 450 F and they have a fan which moves the heat over and through the
beans...I'm not sure how it handles the smoke, but it does do toast and
sometimes that gives off some smoke...
Some people brought up the chaff issue. I would imagine the chaff is blown
through the mesh and onto the floor of the unit, where it can easily be
picked up with a damp sponge, or a vacuum.
I believe the unit is 1700 watts, and maybe it could be modified a la the
poppers. If the smoke is too bad, maybe one of those smoke-eaters some
people are building can be installed....
I would try this out myself, but I don't have the space, nor the need of a
larger roast, but I can't help thinking that this is a very doable project
for you tinkerers...
When you do the search, make sure you have the word "rotisserie" in the
box. Also, check the box that allows you to search through the
descriptions.....
You can go here to see what it looks like...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category675&item#03614744&rd=1
BTW, this is not my item :-) It just has good photos...
There are some units made by Delonghi which seem to be getting higher
prices....
If anyone has tried to use these items would s/he post their results?
Ciao,
Angelo
