Topic: Alp adjustments/cleaning? (29 lines)
1) From: Bob Trancho
After almost 100 roasts since I bought it back in October, my Alp has
hit a point where it just won't bring any beans to second crack. It is
kept very clean - I vac it out between every roast and clean the doors,
etc thoroughly at the end of each roasting session (2-4 roasts).
After reading through what I could find on Google alt.coffee and the
archives of this list, I decided to adjust the Vr1 pot to see if I could
bring it to first crack sooner, reasoning that it would then reach
second before the stupid timer shut it down.
The adjustment was successful in that I went from first crack at 15 - 17
minutes to first crack @ 13 minutes, but the $%&#?! thing STILL doesn't
go to second crack. It used to hit second crack about 3 minutes after
the onset of first crack. I suspect that the temperature sensor is
either defective or gunked up with dust/chaff/goo and is limiting the
roast somehow.
I have opened the bottom hatch to get to the Vr1 pot and used canned air
to blow out as much of the innards as I can reach. Does anyone have an
idea where this sensor is located and if so, whether ot not it can be
cleaned off? - or am I barking up the wrong tree here?
