Topic: Coffee Roasting and Brewing as Art (3 msgs / 58 lines)
1) From: Mark Neuhausen
No perfect shot of espresso today. I did mix two coffees, and the Indian
Monsooned Malabar dates back six days. Maybe its that and maybe.......
My cousin who is an artist and I chatted on-line yesterday about my
"perfect" shot. We both recognized it as a sensual experience, the creation
of a masterpiece. Excellent beans were used (thanks Tom), they were roasted
correctly (pat myself on the back), ground and tamped correctly (another pat
on the back), and extracted at the correct temperature (good surfing, Mark).
In addition to the sight, taste, and smell, I had the satisfaction of
knowing that I had created this masterpiece.
Was I disappointed this morning? No. It made me appreciate how unique and
special yesterday was. Will I forget yesterday? I doubt it, just as my
cousin can remember her art creations in art school many years ago that she
would consider junk today.
I used to say that I would not drink coffee if it did not have caffeine.
Now, I think I might make coffee even if I did not drink it. No, I take
that back. The taste of a properly prepared cup of coffee is a culinary
delight.
Time for Mark to leave being a philosopher and go back to earning a living.

Mark.
I appreciated reading your comments. I agree with you.
What is really nice is, when you serve your coffee to other people,
they tell you that they never believed that coffee could taste so good.
Now that will give you a better high than caffeine. :-)
