The first 2 lots are on the water... and due in early to mid April.
It's been really interesting cupping all the auctin lots as the
season goes by. The last cupping of 11 lots last Friday was really
mediocre. And in fact some Auction Kenyas did arrive in Oakland last
week from the very first Auction of the year, but we didnt bid on
anything from that table - pretty unremarkable stuff. The tables that
have been really good were about 4 weeks and 5 weeks ago. Those were
the ones where 1 lot from each jumped out (not just to me but to
everyone at the cupping), and both times we bought the whole lot (to
the chagrin of a couple people there !). Anyway, the nice thing is
that if the lots dont arrive as remarkable as they were at the
cupping, we can opt out. So this year I have am able to cup
exponentially more Kenyas, get the really exceptional ones, but still
be protected in case they dont arrive right. It's one of the things
about being in CA that I am really appreciating...
