Nice post Rick, Informative and to the point. Just a thought I had. When =
I installed the thermometer in my Alp it was for reference, and not =
really a roasting tool. I just wanted to see what the roaster was doing. =
Even though the Alp is controlled by a timer, if you use the recommended =
225 gram load, it ramps up fairly consistent, but to duplicate a roast, =
you must know your landmarks and hit cool manually. I do not recommend =
Alp owners to drill a hole into there Alp and void the guarantee. I was =
willing to do that in the sake of science.

Ron, do you have a support inside the cover to help hold the thermometer
centered?

No I drilled the hole just big enough for the thermometer to push =
through. The plastic shell and the metal liner in the hood seem to be =
enough to hold it, without interference. I also use the clip that came =
with the thermometer, and a small peice of duct tape, to secure it to =
the plastic hood for extra security.
