Thanks for the tip, I sort of did that. I went half way with all the information I gathered. On weight I had seen mention of 4oz. and 5oz. so I went with 4.5, On the top I left the hood on and strred with the butter dish off. I don't know if you pros are interested in the details but this is how it went.
I started getting worried at 4.5 min when I had not heard any "crack", but it was quite loud and in full swing at 5 min., I watched the beans and when they got to a good color I was getting ready to stop because it was at 9 min. and I thought I was way over time of the 6 min I was expecting and had not heard any second crack. At 6 min / 10 seconds the beans started to get very light and were about to fly out of the popper and the second crack was under way and continued as I poured the beans out to cool.  Now I understand !!!
I plan on building a chiminey to keep the beans inside the popper for darker roasts. Thanks to all that gave me advice and Sweet Marias for such an educational site. Think I'm gonna order some beans now.
 
P.S. I made a second batch and even with the popper pre-heated the times were identical to the first roast very interesting.
