Ok, got the picture
a little clearer now.  The timing that I mentioned was an average "total
time" my timing from first crack is more like 0:02:30.   However, I
have run some longer and really prefer the darker roast - but my wife (who I
adore so she gets her way) doesn't like it as dark.   I am delighted
that we both seem to have fixated on Costa Rican Tarrazu and we do just beyond a
city.

I haven't tried the
preheating, but will on the next few batches. Thanks great idea.  I've
noticed that if I do subsequent roasts the time decreases slightly - so the
heated chamber is getting the beans up in a hurry.

I've hinted (Large
sign in my office at home) for an Alpenrost for Christmas - and expect to have
to learn the timing all over again. But what a great way to learn - all those
good cups!

Thank you to those who welcomed me back.  Not
only was the coffee beyond words (not in a good way), but it was decaf.  I
drank tea.  I am very glad to be home.  I really missed Sylvia and
Mini.

I guess I'm just getting started on my annual 'Christmas Spirit', but it is
evident to me that the efforts of Tom and Maria make my life significantly
richer and I wanted to publically thank them. Not only do I get the absolute
best green coffee beans from Sweetmaria's, but I have the wonderful
opportunity to interact daily with the talented and diverse posters on this
Homeroast list. Relationships are what makes life worth living, and
internet, email friends are as good, and sometimes better than those in the
flesh. Being able to talk coffee every day on this list is incredibly
enjoyable to me, and I learn more than I ever could without it.
Thank you Tom and Maria for all that you have done for homeroasters.

Cheers to that!
As he pulls a fine example of Tom's craft roasted Amber Espresso blend...
And thanks to you Ed and all of you for sharing your knowledge with the
rest of us!

I have been advised that I'm posting - but I'm not even receiving the
customary AOL bounce notices. I'm sure my filter has killed the list
mail. My family leaves in about an hour and I'll go fix it. Its going
to be a sad place after two weeks of constant hugs from grandkids!

John I use inbox cop for filtering spam. Its a funny thing Jim Schulman's
post always get bounce, even when I tell it not to.

Well I have a Linux server that uses a Bayesian filter that has a black,
white and potential ranking. White lists are my address book plus any
addresses I add to the list. Black lists are known spammers or subject
lines with forbidden words etc. The potential is something the filter
thinks is probably spam but the voting was not clear enough. They arrive
at my computer with a tag. In this case I found that it had put the
group on the black list and was merrily killing the mail at the server.

Thanks for the sympathies for my father. He's really
enjoying vac pot and french press coffee. I think more
for being able to watch it being brewed than the
actual coffee itself. I discovered recently, that my
grandparents, who died long ago, roasted their own
coffee. I wish I had know this when I was a teenager,
I would probably have started roasting coffee twenty
years ago!

Hey everybody, here's great reason for CSA Points to Gerald - for
converting a non-roaster to the passion and cult which we so adore...

...for the links to the Newco sources and the comparison with Technivorm.
I think it was easier to pick out an HD TV (television) system than to pick
out the right roaster, grinder, and brewer. At least I could look at lots
of different sets, even in central Maine. But this brewer thing just makes
my head hurt.
For now I think I'll keep pressing, and reading, and will hopefully get
inspired one way or the other. My wife has been pretty understanding so
far, but a Technivorm brewer may push her beyond the brink....

Wow, when it comes to coffee, you know you have gone off the deep end (and others around you as well) when you say TV and have to put "(television)" after it. Reminds me of that old CG thread, "You know you're a Senior Member When...". Stuff like, you look at the shopping list, it has green beans and your wife has to remind you they are a vegetable as well, etc. on it. Good times, good times.

And please, enough with the caps. Couldn't you at least type in all lower
