Topic: NEW Roasting Software (BETA) (4 msgs / 108 lines)
1) From: Scott Antony
Hello All!
Though I've been ‘lurking’ and enjoying the conversation here for about
months now, this is my first post to the list.
I'm writing today because I've just completed my 2nd BETA release of a
new piece of Home Roasting software called Coffee Trails©. The program
is FREEWARE, so never any obligation, and what I hope will be a useful
tool for any coffee roaster. The program is Windows based, and should
work in any OS (I have installed it to 95/98/2000/XP without incident,
but have not tried ME or NT).
I'm looking for people to download it, and ‘kick the tires’ for a couple
weeks, before I complete the work and provide a ‘release’ version.
Included in the setup program is a questionnaire I hope you will return
with your comments and suggestions after your test drive. Note that the
download is somewhat large (13MB – Crystal Reports is more than half of
that!) so for a 56K dial-up, it could take close to an hour, but well
worth your time (I hope ;).
There are forms for tracking: Beans, Roasts, Purchases, Suppliers,
Cupping, Grinding, a Glossary of terms, and even the Tasting wheels!
There are also reports for printing your data, although this BETA
version only contains a subset of 6 or 7, and I will be continuing to
create more reports while the BETA is in progress.
While the goal of any BETA is be sure the program ‘works’, my main
reason is to learn from other roasters just what kind of data you like
to track and then how to present it in a report. For example, the
‘Beans’ form already has about a dozen fields, but what did I miss?
Personally, I've only been roasting for about 3 months now, so I'm no
expert and would appreciate your input.
So, if you're inclined to help with the BETA, the URL is:
   www.vbsharesoft.com
which will take you to the main page of my site.
When you get there, scroll down to the middle of the page to see the
Coffee Trails© logo/description, and click on it to go to the download
page. There you will find additional instructions and the download link.
I would also like to ask, in deference to those on this list who aren't
interested, and Tom and Maria's bandwidth, that technical questions and
comments about the software be directed to beta and not
the homeroast list (though a 'Wooo Hooo' here and there probably
couldn't hurt ;).
Thanks for your indulgence, and I hope you enjoy the program!
Regards!
Scott Antony
P.S. I DID get prior permission from Tom and Maria to make the program
known on this list, and they are aware of the software. Moreover, the
program is FREEWARE, so while I suppose you could call this
‘advertising’ it is not of a commercial nature, so no flames please ;).

Welcome to the list and great post!
I'm looking for people to download it, and ‘kick the tires’ for a
couple

I'll be more than happy to test drive it! Way back when I used a dial up I
averaged 6Mb per hour on downloads so would have been around 2hrs. Or now
1min 9.47sec with a decent cable connection:-) Good feed speed on the Server
end BTW.
MM;-)
FFRmR - RBB - RG - MSB too!
