I kept hoping I could show up as the mystery guest, but couldn't make it
work out. Instead, I have to go cover Texas for wandering John. Boo
Hiss! :-(

I drove all day yesterday and we're in Fort Stockton TEXAS! Drove
through 30 miles of wind machines - awesome! At one point the windmills
were spinning on our right side (north) and the left side of the highway
was dotted with oil derricks stroking up and down. Would make a great
energy conservation film!!
The CR Miel that I brought to drink along the way tasted terrible this
morning. Hope its because I slept with my mouth open after eating
Mexican food!
Back on the road in 30 minutes. We are trying for either Gallup or
Albuquerque for tonight. Hope the scenery gets less high dessert - but
doubt it.
John - wandering Texas at 80 mph! Would you believe the speed limit is 75!!

By my map, he made just under 600 miles the first day or about the same as Vancouver, WA
to Sacramento, CA. He must have gotten a late start and stopped early -- retirees do that
sort of thing. Only 300 more miles and he'll be out of Texas. I believe he will get out
of the high desert scenery somewhere around Sisters as he climbs the Cascades. By the
time he reaches Bend he'll be ready to stop at the High Desert Museum and add to their
collection.
