Anyone know what it means when you plug the Alp in and it stays on 1 and
is non-responsive?

Mike,
I haven't seen that one and hope I don't anytime soon. Been through 60
roasts on my Alp thus far and keep thinking...how many more until I see a
failure of some sort. Assuming you're house power is ok, my guess is that
you've got a failed circuit board that controls the start/stop and indicator
level. You could also email Anthony Lemme over at SwissMar to see if he has
any workaround for that problem. He's at anthonyl
Hope you're still under warranty and can get it replaced at no cost.

Yes. It means you need to call and get it replaced. If you look closely
at an Alp as it initializes, I think you will see it displays a "1" briefly
and then displays an "8". I suspect that the microprocessor has failed to
boot. My first one did that the second day I owned it, and Swissmar was
VERY prompt about replacing it... shipped the replacement by second day air
and issued a call tag for the old one about a week later.
A small ray of hope, though.... the unit suddenly recovered the next
morning and worked OK after that but I swapped it anyway.
