I've been roasting Sumatra to just before 2nd my 450f for quite some time
and very pleased with the cups. Got some Sumatra Gayoland from Charlie at
the Gathering and roasted a batch first thing that morning 2+12min profiled
to 450f. Decided to do a second batch same 2+12 time but higher to 460f
which takes it a bit into 2nd. The amount of additional *roast taste* in the
second batch was substantial. While roast taste didn't totally over power
such a strong charactered coffee it did predominate. The more normal 450
roast I use for Sumatra & Sulawesi has just a hint of roast tones with
varietal characteristics much more the fore front. Overall I prefer the
lighter, though the darker makes an interesting afternoon change of pace
cup. (Specific profile ramps on request.)
