I do that all the time. I just saw a $20 thermocouple. Started the order. Got to
"shipping" for $8. 40%? No way!! Then ...who am I kidding? What if I saw the
thermo first for for $28 with free shipping? or $35? I'd probably buy it. So I
bought it and the pain left after 5 minutes.
And on the matter of books, here's a post from a few weeks back. "Keep looking for
those books (7 msgs / 186 lines)"

I just ordered the out of print: "The Book of Coffee: A Gourmet's Guide by
Francesco Illy (Photographer), Riccardo Illy" from Amazon's marketplace. I've never
seen it below $80.00, and I just got it for $20.08. Its condition is described as
"acceptable." Hmmmm. I suppose that's better than "barely acceptable"? And the
"comments" read, "withdrawn from library circulation." I'll update upon arrival.
UPDATE:
First, I got an email from the vendor saying that their "quality control" checked
over the book and found the spine was loose but could probably be fixed with tape.
I emailed back to forget it. Then (like above) I thought, who am I kidding? For
$20 I'll take a chance. Emailed again but it crossed with another email for the
vendor offering the book for half--$11.00.
