Many of you may know that a few of us have been working on a ground up
Roaster Controller design. I was in the process of moving some of the
materials to a new site and decided to take advantage of the ability to
do surveys.
So... Go try our Coffee Roaster's survey at:http://portals.slalomservices.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid9It will be interesting to see the tallies! Some of the questions are
obviously targeted at finding out some information for our controller
design and some is just for fun.

Wow, I am duly impressed. Especially if you get is to work. That is
looking downright professional. Interesting about the tallies, I seem to
be "average".

Thanks a lot... It certainly is a group effort.

lol... That will certainly be the 'pudding'. Actually I am sure that
it will work. However,
the question is how many of the goals can we meet.

Meeting the goals is what I mean by work. Otherwise you simply have a
device that behaves as built but not necessarily as intended. :-)

I was surprised to see, or rather not see, the Caffe' Rosto listed on your
survey roaster used question #1. Seems ya'll got all the other commercial
home roasters plus poppers, woks, Q drums and even just the oven. The Rosto
bunched with all *others* like dogbowl or salon hair dryer roasting? Hmmm...
RE ideal batch size. One answer very limited for the question. Ideal batch
size varies depending. Usual day in day out batches or for gifting etc. IMO
the ideal homeroaster would be flexible from a small batch size of say 4oz
to largest batch of say 4# being able to closely maintain same chosen roast
profile(s) any size batch. (Dual variable voltage boost controlled Rosto
gets me a greens batch size range of about 3oz to 10oz. Less than 3oz and
thermometer as I've got it placed won't reach beans, over 10.67 roast
chamber just too small.)
Now time to quit stalling and get back to anchoring and miles of electrical
spaghetti! (day three of our outdoor Christmas display setup...)

The tallies are interesting.
Would love to know what the "other" types of roasters are.
...Wish you hadn't asked the how much $ question. It got me thinking, do I
really need 3 different Infrared Thermometers and a logging thermocouple
meter and several stick thermos? Well, maybe not, it's a slippery slope

Da$%# ! I knew I missed something Mike. Sorry! I was looking at the
survey results and I couldn't
understand why there were so many 'others'. I hang my head in shame. :-(
<Snip>
I was going to say maximum but... If people knew that we wanted to be
able to vary the batch size
with the new controller I figured this crowd would say something like 12KG.
<Snip>
lol... see what I mean! No seriously... We would hope to be able to
handle similar variances once calibrated
to your Franken Rosto. Although, for automated operation it would be
rockin' not allowed. One of the limits
would be natural bean movement.
<Snip>
lol.... Have fun!

Thanks Ron...
But as Mike pointed out (hang's head) I left the rockin' Rosto out.
I am very interested in the results. Some are expected and some
were not. How about we leave the survey open until Friday Night.
Then over the weekend I'll try to sumarize that stuff.

If anyone still wants to respond there is about 24 hours left to take the
survey at:http://portals.slalomservices.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid9So far we've had just over 100 people respond.

What happens if someone responds more than once, tracking IPs to eliminate
*stuffing the ballot*?
But then, Caffe' Rosto still not listed:-(
But then, if you were to list it late you'd have to start the survey process
all over so I understand:-)
