Hello everyone,
Today I weighed out a pound of green beans (I am really giving my
experimental beans a work out here) and found that they just about fill
the Poppery (WBPI) to the top :(
Of course the fan would not move them!
I had the heater disconnected.
So I got out my trusty Dremel and shaved off a portion of each cast
fin, to allow more air flow, and propped it up without a case to allow
as much air in as it could handle.
Slowly dumped in to an extended chamber until no amount of shaking and
tilting would keep it from stalling... about 325 gr. is all it would
move :(
I really like that cast chamber though, and the way they wound that 1500
watt heater around a block of ceramic :)
Then after it roasts that much, the volume will about double; and you
need to allow room for the beans to fly around while they are roasting....
Wow! Big jump from a half a pound.
So I am thinking I could put it into my supercharger bucket, and run
from there;
but I still need a huge chamber to allow roasting.
Huge compared to roasting 80 or 100 gr.
Hmmmm.. maybe I can mount it on a tilted rotisserie, and turn it while
it is running...... or put an electric stirrer in it......
Will keep you posted,
PeterZ

I have thought about somehow mounting it into a 45 degree cartage and
rocking it (by a motor) 270 degrees (over 360 as I could not figure out how
not to have a tangled plug). A true hybrid that way.

Please do!

Hi John,
Thanks for the input :) er.... remember those old vacuum cleaners that
rewound the cord by themselves? A set up like that could keep the cord
from tangling. I actually made an extension telephone out of one, back
before cordless phones. (Gosh, now I am dating myself !)
Lately I have been trying to think of how to attach a vibrator to it.
The theory is that if you get the beans to vibrate, the air will move
them around more easily.
Just looked at a vibrating shell tumbler. It has an induction motor in
it so I cannot slow it down. Seems much too spunky to place my Poppery
on... I suspect that that much vibration will thoroughly annoy the
heater coil and motor ;)
Soooo.. another thrift shop trip is in order. Have to track down a hand
held vibrator with brushes in it so I can rheostat it :) Don't you just
love rheostats????
If anyone tries this chime in and let us know how it works :)
Thanks,
PeterZ
