I have not read the objectives of the original Harvard study. I knew about it second hand because my father was (and still is, at 94) a participant subject. He suspected aspirin was what he was taking, and my understanding was that the double blind code was broken early because the researchers were seeing a high degree of correlation rather than the other way around...but I got that by hearsay from Dad. I could be remembering wrong, so won't put my understanding or misunderstanding of it all on him. Apparently, the aspirin data was one of the most striking benefits of that study. Granted that with hindsight, 20,000 cases were not needed. But twenty? I haven't studied statistics since 1968. Maybe I'll read some of that after I finish Mann's *1491* and Landes' *Revolution in Time*, both of which I'm in the middle of right now. No, it's more likely I'll want to read more of Hulagu Khan's rampage through Georgia for some background to the presentday situation in the Caucasus. I never did like history when it was forced on me. Don't know why I find it so facinating now. Must be the coffee! Anyhow, thanks for the enlightenment. I'm due for another YergaCheffe and then off to town. Wednesday is my brewpub night.
