Topic: FreshRoast Plus problem (5 msgs / 144 lines)

My FreshRoast Plus, bought about 6 months ago, has started burning beans and leaving others barely roasted. It seems as if the fan is not circulating the beans as it used to. Are fan problems common to these machines? Ed Van Herik evanherik

Hi Ed, If there's a fan problem, you'll notice the beans not moving at the start of the roast. The FR fan is pretty well bulletproof, so it's more likely to be the roast chamber. The metal band and deeper sitting chamber, supposedly an improvement, is the culprit. Use a strong detergent. like dishwashing liquid, or Urnex if you have it, to scrub the metal ring and remove coffee oils. Tilting the roaster about 10 to 15 degrees, and shutting it down for one minute just before the first crack, also helps. Finally, the rubber seal of a small mason jar can be used as a spacer to lift the roast chamber. This will remove the defects of the "improved" design. So you are saying to place the rubber seal into the freshroast + base and then put the roasting chamber on top of that? I have a new freshroast + and so far my only complaint was my original roast chamber cracked on the base (something I thought had been taken care of in the new model, but nothing jb weld wouldn't take care of). If this would help the air flow improve I'd like to try it and I thought I'd clarify the suggestion first.

Hi Clay, That's right. Place the seal on the plastic cowling at the top of the base, then the chamber on that. You may need to cut the seal to make clearance for the two built up sections that make a slot for the handle. Jim On 30 Jun 2003 at 16:54, Clay wrote: <Snip>
